Nuclear energy: I would like to understand more ... For a fantastic stay

Surely you noticed that spot that is ultimately broadcast frequently on TV and that invites the viewer to reflect on nuclear energy. I confess I have an opinion on my mood dictated by the ecologist, but as these are my notes 'virtual', I need to learn more.
I found this site that I 'stole' this brief list of the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear power whose link is http://www.ecoage.it/energia-nucleare-vantaggi-e-svantaggi.htm

BENEFITS
-A nuclear power plant does not emit CO2

-Nuclear power plants do not produce carbon dioxide and oxides of nitrogen and sulfur, the main causes of ozone depletion and the greenhouse effect.

-advantage in the balance of payments
The production of energy from nuclear power reduces the import of petroleum and petroleum-dependent economies. The coverage of the domestic energy needs through nuclear power reduces the possibility of external shocks on the economy and allows governments to reducing the burden of cost on the balance of payments with foreign countries. All this translates into greater stability of the national economy ..

-Greater political stability
The main oil reserves are concentrated in a few countries with high political instability (Middle East) that risk of transmission even in countries heavily dependent on imported oil. The use of nuclear energy reduces dependence on Middle Eastern oil by the West.

DISADVANTAGES
-Consequences of an accident
History has already shown the serious consequences of accidents at nuclear power plants. The radiation to which the population is exposed causing an increased risk of death from leukemia and cancer. By Chernobyl nuclear power plant safety has become one of the main critics of nuclear energy for civilian use. In recent years, technological progress has greatly improved the safety of nuclear nuclear reactors equipped with the latest technology.

-Nuclear waste
Unfortunately, the nuclear waste is another critical aspect of nuclear power. Can not be destroyed and the only solution for now, seems to be storage for thousands of years in geological or engineering. The search for a safe-deposit is one of the main objectives of the EU and the U.S.. It takes years of studies and major investment in detection of storage solutions for hundreds of thousands of years.

Location-nuclear protests and local
The process of locating a nuclear plant or waste repository is very difficult. No local community agrees to sacrifice his own territory to host the nuclear waste. Sardinia, Puglia, Basilicata is the recent Italian cases of strong anti-nuclear protests (2003). That same year, a local Chinese community successfully opposed the government decision to build a geological disposal of waste by implementing a bitter and prolonged protest. In both cases, they won the local population.

-Terrorism
We live in an age when few people can do great damage to humanity. The memory of the tragedy of 11 September 2001 to the skyscrapers of the World Trade Center was a severe shock for the whole of Western society. The risk that nuclear power plants are used as targets for acts of terrorism or dirty bombs is very realistic. E 'lawful and rational concern. New nuclear plants will have to include this aspect right from the planning stage.

-The transport of nuclear material
The transport of radioactive and nuclear material is one of the most critical aspects of "security" issue. During transport, as well as the opposition of the people who will go with radioactive cargo ships or trains near their homes, there is a risk of accidents and terrorist attacks. In France, the special trains carrying nuclear waste are shipped by "wagons Armed and mounted policemen. The route of the train is constantly changing knowledge of people living near the railways. For these reasons, waste repositories should reside near nuclear plants thus avoiding the need for transport of slag. The scientific and technological research has not yet found a way to destroy the waste within the same nuclear power plants. We are still waiting for answers to that effect.
For the moment I have changed my mind ....
